The Alexandria Project Network (alexandriaproject.net) site provides a Direct Message, Direct Mail (DM), feature that provides users a convenient and private way to communicate with other “friend” members in the network. It is a “private, in house, in network” text message like, live chat. It’s great for collaborating. Although it is simple and intuitive to use, it has some requirements that need to be known in order to set it up and use it.
First, in order to send DM messages to another “Member” you must be “Friends”, i.e., you must send them a friend request and they must have accepted, or you must have accepted a friend request from them. To do this, go to the menu, “My Platform>Members”, look up their name, then select, “Friend Request”. When they accept it will show them as a “Friend”. They will also be added to your list of friends (icon) on Your Platform page. To initiate communication, from the “Your Platform>Members” list, click on their name and you will go to go to their page. You will see a blue “Messages” button on their page, click on it to initiate communication type a short note and send it. Thereafter, their name will be on your mail list (Envelop Icon) and from there you can DM, or chat live. If you are using your phone, the mail list and the most recent conversation will overlay each other due to screen size and you need to close the conversation (X) to see the mail list, when you wish to connect with another friend.
Second, since this is a secure DM you need to double check or set your Security settings. Go to the menu, “My Platform>Account”. From your “Account” page to you can control the “Security” settings to allow “Messages” from others on the Network.
This will also be posted in the “Coffee Shop” under “How To”, for reference and comment.
